Only the finest, seasonal and natural ingredients are selected to make our chocolates. We source local ingredients such as fresh berries and fruits, and travel the world to find the best exotic ingredients each culture has to offer. I was born in a country where I can still see the sacred olive tree of Plato, even if this tree which is thousands years old is now displayed only in the museum. I was born in a country for which the Nobel prize winner the poet Odysseus Elytis wrote: «If you take Greece apart, in the end you will be left with an olive tree, a vineyard and a boat. Which means that with these items you can rebuild Greece». I was born in a country where the Goddess of War Athena, in order to make Athens her own, did not draw her fearsome weapons, the sword, the shield, the spear. She gave as a gift an olive tree to the citizens. And the wisdom to cultivate it… I was born in a country where the Olympians were crowned with an olive branch instead of gold. How can I avoid its history and the myths? How can I forget the cheerful voices every autumn, when the workers rushed to my country’s olive groves to pick the blessed fruit? I have lived many years away from my country. I have travelled all over the world. I have worked in countries where people do not even know what olive oil is. And when I finally returned from my rich life journey I decided together with my partners that we wanted to do something for our homeland. A timeless and superior quality product, as a discerning connoisseur of olive oil would demand. With my childhood memories in my mind I walked the old and well maintained olive groves of my family. So many generations back… I had to continue the tradition. Not because I was lacking experiences, those that my journey gave me. I was missing the scent of the olive tree nearby the sea. And its fruit which encloses all the sea aura of the sunset, giving us an olive oil like no other in the world. I was missing the taste of the morning mist of the olive groves on the mountain. The one that goes away with the morning breeze and the first rays of the sun, leaving behind its health benefits which fill the olive with fruitful pleasures. I was missing the soil on which we were running barefoot. Which we soaked with water and moulded clay when we were children, making the first pots for storing the oil. The same soil that the centuries filled with rich trace elements and qualities that only the volcanic mixture of the Mediterranean landscape offers. I was missing the night with the weak light of the lanterns of the poorest houses of the village. But most of all the olive press… The traditional grindstones which time has treated them well and which give an unparalleled quality to the olive oil. The olive press where we could always find burning coals to bake fresh bread, to pour on it plenty of freshly extracted olive oil and oregano and taste something that all the Michelin stars together cannot match… Who can describe the splendour of the beloved fruit that needs sun, soil and fresh air… With full respect to the elements of the traditional way and by using the latest technological methods we collect the olives from the olive groves. The standardization of the olive oil is done by hand as well but in absolutely well controlled conditions, certified with the aid of the science of agriculture. All these result to the oil extract that is characterized by extremely low acidity with high values of phenols, oleocanthal and oleacein, which fortify the human body and –as it is scientifically proven after relevant researches- shield it from serious diseases. I have been having these thoughts for years now while walking through the rich olive trees, surrounded by streams full of running water. With me in this beautiful and productive journey I have my precious colleagues Grigoris, Manos, Dimitris, Aggeliki, Christos, Manolis and Sophia. We climbed up the mountain and watched from afar the Olympia, the place where for thousands of years the Olympians were competing for ’’kotinos’’, a simple olive wreath. My village is called Kallithea [=beautiful view], for the very reason that it has such a beautiful view. The olive trees, which have been handed down from father to son, have never stopped giving the extract of this blessed country. An extract which we decided along with my colleagues to share with you. We cooperated with specialised scientists and farm workers. We analyzed the individual conditions of this corner of Greece and with passion and scientific knowledge we made sure we offer you the extract of a rare product with particular beneficial qualities. When Westye Bakke began experimenting with refrigeration in the 1930s, it was in part to find a better way to store the insulin his young son Bud needed for his juvenile diabetes. Existing freezers didn’t do a reliable job of preserving food, medicine and other necessities. 

Westye set out to find a better way. In 1943, he built his first freestanding freezer out of scrap metal in his basement, bending the coils bare-handed. And in 1945, launched Sub-Zero Freezer Company, introducing the first system for preserving food at ultra-low temperatures - literally sub-zero. The company would quickly establish a reputation for quality and innovation.

Products are subjected to lab testing under extreme environmental conditions. Every component of every product is tested before assembly, then each finished product is tested for reliability before shipping.

Ever since Westye’s earliest pioneering efforts, we’ve never stopped searching for ways to keep your food (and even wine) as fresh and delicious as it can be. We pioneered the dual refrigeration system, which relies on two separate, self-contained cooling systems to keep fresh food fresher and preserve frozen food longer. We also developed an air filtration system inspired by NASA technology that scrubs the air of ethylene gas, which hastens food spoilage, and also reduces odors by removing bacteria, mold and viruses.

The very doors on a Sub-Zero refrigerator are special, with seals so secure that even after power outages of multiple days, owners report no thawing of their frozen foods.

Inspired by Sub-Zero, many families are eating fresher foods – shopping the farmer’s market rather than the supermarket – because they know the food will last far longer, with less waste.

 

At Sub-Zero, the function has always come first. But in the case of dual refrigeration, that function led to a form that became one of the most imitated home product designs ever: the classic Sub-Zero look with its bold, louvered grille over the dual compressors.

Through the years Sub-Zero has expanded its design leadership with integrated refrigeration that blends in seamlessly with the décor. No longer does any kitchen have to suffer the dubious aesthetic of a freestanding refrigerator – considered “the elephant in the room” of kitchen design. Our design approach impressed even legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright, who commissioned Sub-Zero equipment for the visionary homes he designed.

 

In the year 2000, Sub-Zero formed Wolf Appliance to create the ultimate cooking appliances for passionate home cooks. Sub-Zero’s launch of the new Wolf product lines was the most ambitious ever in the cooking industry, with more than 50 items at once.

Wolf cooking equipment is highly specialized, putting precise control in the hands of consumers via easy-to-use technology. About Chris Olshan

Chief Executive Officer

Chris Olshan is the Chief Executive Officer of The Luxury Marketing Council and has been the Chief Marketing Officer since 2010. He ran new business development and collaborations and sponsorships for member brands and in 2011 founded the company's millennial division The Young Luxury Marketers' Council.

Before joining The Council, Chris was a licensed real estate broker in Pennsylvania. He is a serial entrepreneur. His first venture at 18 was a luxury cleaning and homecare service company.

 From 2002-2008 he specialized in connecting the most-affluent buyers with the most-affluent owners of the rarest, limited-production, exotic imports: 
Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Maserati, Maybach, Mercedes, Bentley and Aston Martin. He opened automotive dealerships that procured high-ticket vehicle financing and he still hold his automotive dealer license.

In addition, Chris:

- Created an acceptance of legal street racing and built an organization of more than 500 street-racers on the east coast.

- Built a high-fashion modeling agency that engages intelligent and beautiful models to promote luxury products and services at exclusive, special events.

- Launched a consulting practice that specialized in helping local businesses start-up, grow and market their products and services.

He is a sought-after authority on the changing luxury market and customer, latest trends in technology, strategies and tactics for selling to the ultra-high-net-worth customers, the Millennial generation and the impact they have on the economy.

He has lectured at NYU Stern Graduate School of Business, LIM, Fordham University, FIT and Kent State's undergraduate school. He has also keynoted a number of global conferences including The Luxury Interactive Conference in 2011 and 2012 and The Brand Innovators Conference in 2013.

Most recently, Chris launched Surly Penguin - a new distillery creating hand-crafted cordials and bespoke liqueurs.  Sourcing fruits, herbs and spices from local farms, this new 22-flavor brand delivers premium quality products.

In his free time he enjoys target-shooting, carpentry, automotive mechanics and landscape design.  He also has a passion for travel, reading, fine cuisine, and cooking.
